MATCHA Writer accessibility guide

MATCHA Writer is a desktop authoring app for academic work. This guide summarizes its accessibility features and offers some accessibility-focused usage advice.

Level AA conformance, W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1

WCAG 2.1 AA compliant

Accessibility features

Keyboard access

MATCHA includes keyboard shortcuts for document editing, file actions, formatting, review workflows, pane focus, tab navigation, help, and app zoom. You can open the in-app shortcut reference from the MATCHA menu or with Command + / on macOS and Ctrl + / on Windows.

Predictable focus movement

Use Tab and Shift + Tab to move between interactive components in the current area of the app. The main toolbar can also be focused with Option + T on macOS or Alt + T on Windows.

Zoom and readability

App zoom is available from the View menu and with standard shortcuts: Command + Plus or Ctrl + Plus to zoom in, Command + Minus or Ctrl + Minus to zoom out, and Command + 0 or Ctrl + 0 to reset zoom. Zoom is synchronized across the main MATCHA window and embedded browser panes.

Dictation support

MATCHA has built-in anti-automation that normally prevents the insertion of text using dictation. This can be disabled for specific students. Ask your instructor or proctor to issue an accessibility pass from MATCHA Proctor.

VPAT

Our current Voluntary Product Accessibility Template is dated May 20, 2026. We publish the VPAT as a standalone public document. We also have a broader HECVAT package available upon request. Request it at contact@matchatech.io.

Support and accommodations

If a student, instructor, proctor, or institution needs a specific accommodation, contact MATCHA support before the activity whenever possible. This is especially important for supervised activities, Single-App Mode, or activity settings that intentionally restrict parts of the desktop environment.
