MATCHA’s built-in AI assistant can generate or improve text, and every change it makes is tracked and auditable. Instructors set the level of help, from none to full composition. In pedagogical mode, it leaves some errors for students to correct and gives feedback on their attempts.

In practice

Full help for authors. Practice for students.

An independent author may want full composition help. A language instructor may want students to work through their own grammatical mistakes. MATCHA lets each activity set the level of help, and every AI-made change stays part of the record.

  1. Set the level of help

    Choose no assistance, grammar correction only, grammar and style, or full composition help for the activity.

  2. Let students fix their own mistakes

    In pedagogical mode, the assistant makes some corrections, highlights passages in need of revision, leaves some errors for the student, and gives feedback on their correction attempts.

  3. Keep the contribution visible

    All AI-made changes to a document are tracked and auditable, alongside the rest of the writing process.

AI Assistant

  • For many purposes, it makes sense to use AI to generate or improve text.
  • MATCHA recognizes this, providing a fully integrated AI assistant.
  • All AI-made changes to a document are tracked and auditable.
  • In pedagogical settings, instructors can control the level of help provided by the AI assistant: none, grammar correction only, grammar and style, and full composition help.

Pedagogical AI

  • In pedagogical mode, MATCHA's optional built-in AI assistant guides students to correct their grammatical and stylistic mistakes rather than correcting them all automatically.
  • It makes some corrections, leaves some errors for the student to correct, highlights the passages in need of revision, and provides feedback on the student's correction attempts.
  • This type of intervention promotes learning rather than dependence on AI.

AI Research Mode (Upcoming)

An upcoming mode for AI-assisted research inside MATCHA. Research mode is not currently available.

  • Planned support for brainstorming and research-oriented questions, including assistant chat while working in the built-in browser.
  • The planned mode uses the active browser tab as context to summarize a reading or help work with its content.
  • Research assistance has its own instructor-controlled setting, separate from the level of writing assistance allowed for an activity.
