Creating a course in the MATCHA Dashboard

Courses group activities for a class or cohort. Create a course first, then add activities (assignments, exams, etc.) to it.

Prerequisites

  • You must be signed in to the MATCHA Dashboard .
  • You must belong to the correct organization. By default, you will be in your own personal organization. You can create courses in this organization, but they will not benefit from shared settings from your institution, such as proctor lists. To join your institution's shared organization, request an invitation from an administrator. You will see the invitation as a popup in the dashboard. If using your institution's official email address, you may be automatically added to the organization.

Steps

  1. Open the MATCHA Dashboard and select your organization (if you have more than one).
  2. In the Courses section, click New course .
  3. Enter a Course name (e.g. “Philosophy 101”). This name is visible to participants.
  4. Set the Course end time . Participants cannot submit or modify assignments after this time. Include enough margin for late submissions.
  5. Student ID validation (optional): you can require participants to use a specific ID format.
    • Use existing: pick a previously configured ID validation rule for your organization.
    • Create new: define a new rule (e.g. official email domain, numeric student ID, or other format).
    • Skip: no ID validation for this course.
  6. Click Create . The new course appears in the list. Click it to add activities.

Next steps

After creating a course, add activities from the course view. Each activity defines an assignment or exam with its own access, security, and submission settings.
